BARRE TOWN – Brian K. Martin, 74, of Ridgewood Terrace, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at his home.
Born June 1, 1944 in Waterbury, he was the son of Edward H. and Bernice E. (Finn) Martin. Brian attended elementary and high school in Waterbury. After high school, he attended Champlain College and the University of Vermont, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
On June 29, 1991, Brian married Arlene Sutton in Montpelier. Following their marriage, they made their home in Berlin, eventually moving to Plainfield and most recently in Barre Town.
Brian was employed as an Accountant and Treasurer of Equity Services at the National Life Insurance Company, until retiring in 2004.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, antiquing and furniture restoration. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family and attending sports and school events for the grandchildren. Vacationing on the coast of Maine and his 5 o’clock Scotch cocktails were also among his favorite activities.
Brian was known for his hearty laugh, robust conversation and friendly nature. He was always willing to help out family and friends whenever there was a need.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Martin of Barre Town, his children Jennifer Warren of South Carolina, Mark Martin of New York, Jaime Martin of South Carolina, and his stepsons Todd Sutton of Massachusetts, Tait Sutton of Vermont, and stepdaughter Tara Sutton of Vermont; fourteen grandchildren; and his sister Nancy Lamson of Vermont.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Craig Martin, his brother Bernard “Bumpy” Martin, and his nephew Jeff Martin.
A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 12:00 noon in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
