MONTPELIER - Beverly Arlene (Bowen) Lord, recently of Barre, died quietly in her sleep after a brief illness on March 30, 2016 at her home at Heaton Woods in Montpelier, VT.
Beverly was born on July 21, 1934 in Randolph, Vermont, the daughter of Mary (Pember) and Haskell Bowen. She graduated from the Randolph Elementary and High School in June 1952, attending all twelve grades at that same school. She attended her 63rd class reunion in Randolph in August 2015.
On August 4, 1956, she married Richard “Dick” Lord in Randolph. They made their home in East Barre where they raised their family, operated two businesses, and created a housing subdivision on upper Phil Street. In 1984, they moved to Westview Condominiums in Barre, where Beverly served as a board member for the condominium association. They spent many winters in Florida until Dick’s death in 2002.
Beverly worked at the Barre Town Elementary school, the Northfield Savings Bank, and the Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, retiring from the latter in 1998. In her retirement, she was an active volunteer for RSVP where she received recognition for her volunteer work.
Beverly was a very active member of the East Barre Congregational Church since 1956, where she was a church deacon and a member of the women’s auxiliary. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir.
She loved the time she spent with her loving grandchildren, supporting them at innumerable athletic events, concerts, plays, and other school functions. She also spent hours poolside with them at her home in Barre. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, feeding the birds from her porch, daily walks, and simply being outdoors.
Beverly is predeceased by her parents, husband Richard Lord, in-laws Bernal and Alice (Cameron) Lord, sister Shirley (Bowen) Lord and brother-in-law Robert Lord of Barre, brother Winston Bowen of Randolph, and older siblings Raymond, Frederick, Ralph and Alice Greene.
She is survived by her son Gregory Lord and his wife Kathryn (Moeykens) Lord of Barre and their sons Bowen and Duncan; daughter Elaine Lord Brand and her husband Larry Brand of Shelburne and their daughter Olivia; sister-in-law Patricia (Lord) Lawson and her husband Arnold Lawson of East Barre; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Heaton Woods and Bayada Home Health for the wonderful, loving and attentive care and support.
The Memorial Service celebrating Beverly’s life will be Sunday, April 3, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the East Barre Congregational Church. Family and friends may call at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the service, there will be a time of fellowship and refreshments.
