Beverly E. Healy

September 8, 1933 — October 16, 2016

BARRE - Betty passed away at home in the comfort of her family on Sunday, October 16, 2016. She was born at home on September 8, 1933, and grew up on the family farm in Graniteville, Vermont. Her parents were John Arthur and Esther (Belville) Pallas. Her parents and all of her siblings pre-deceased her: Priscilla Safford, Charlotte Trombly, Jon Pallas, and Fred Pallas. Surviving are her children, Michael J. Healy, Ellen (and Bruce) Adams, John C. (and Shannon) Healy, and David Healy; grandchildren Rochelle, EmmaRae, Kathryn, Micaiah, Dirk, Heather, Michelle and Bruce; great-grandchildren Azailea, Isaac, Ian, Irissa, Omri James, Cameron and Colby. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Let’s not forget her constant companion, Chico the Chihuahua, who brought her great joy in her retirement.

Betty attended the schoolhouse in Graniteville through eighth grade. She then walked many miles to high school in Williamstown, which was, as we all know, uphill both ways. While in high school, Betty enjoyed playing softball on the school team.

Betty was married to (the late) James Norman Healy for many years before divorcing. As a single parent, she worked hard for her family. Betty retired from the State of Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles in 1995. Previously, she had worked at Sprague Electric and the Barre Town school system. Betty was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In her time, Betty was a great bowler. For many years, she held either first or second place with top highest average in the women’s league. She also competed in many tournaments. The house was filled with her bowling trophies. All of her children remember spending countless hours at Twin City Lanes.

After retiring, Betty loved to go to yard sales with her sister and best friend, Charlotte, where she acquired a large collection of dolls. The collection came to be appreciated even more as her four granddaughters came along, and then, great-granddaughters. Forward thinking, Grammie Betty!

Betty’s last few years were spent quietly at home with Chico. Special thanks go out to Kathy Curley for caring so lovingly for our mother these last few months, as well as to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice who made a peaceful ending at home possible for someone who dreaded the thought of going into a nursing home. Their hospice team is amazing.

There will be a graveside service at Wilson Cemetery in Barre Town on Friday, October 21 at 2 o’clock, followed by bowling at Twin City Lanes.
