BARRE - Beverly A. Casey, 90, of Eastern Avenue, passed away the early morning of Monday, February 19, 2024, at Barre Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Born on December 12, 1933, in Chelsea, she was the daughter of Walter and Marion Grant.
Beverly was formerly married to Joseph A. Casey, and together they had four children, Patrick, Timothy, Eileen, and Melissa.
Her life was filled with many challenges from her early years on West Hill in Chelsea, to Trow Hill in Barre Town, and finally Barre City. Beverly faced all with great resolve, exceptional humor, blessed grace, and extraordinary fortitude. Anyone who connected with Beverly can attest that she made an unforgettable impression. No one will forget her sparkling blue eyes, her mischievous grin, her laughter, her sage and valuable advice, cutting commentary, and most appreciated – her scrumptious cooking and creative recipe skills.
Beverly was an avid reader and writer. She enjoyed poetry, scripture, philosophy, recipe books, humor, politics, geography, history, and world events. She knew a little bit about everything. If she didn’t know, she would seek the information through various sources. Hence, her favorite places included any bookstore or the local library.
In 2013, Beverly wrote an autobiography, Jill of All Trades, Master of Some. The book chronicled her many adventures through varying careers over 50 years. It was a great achievement and a gift to her family to pass down for generations. Beverly loved and cared deeply for her pets unconditionally. She displayed such love and honor by keeping framed photos of them next to her children’s photos. Any stray cat or neighborhood pet would always find a way to Beverly’s doorstep for love and treats. Similarly, people had the same magnetic pull to Beverly’s kitchen table for coffee, tea, great food, and lively conversation. A true testament to a spiritually grounded, compassionate, and beloved human being. Though Beverly’s physical presence is a great loss to her family and friends, her indomitable spirit, loving and caring heart will live on in each one of us. Her light was that great and shined that brightly throughout her life.
Survivors include her children, Patrick M. Casey of Seffner, FL, Timothy J. Casey of Williamstown, VT, Eileen M. Casey of Hinesburg, VT, and Melissa J. Casey of Barre, VT; her granddaughters Megan M. Ayhe, and Shawna L. Chance, and her four great-grandchildren Donivan Harris, Breanna Ayhe, Savannah Chance, and Aubri Chance as well as her brother Leon Grant of Bethel, VT.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Arthur Grant, Gordon Grant, and Gerald Grant.
The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Humane Society, 1589 VT 14 South, East Montpelier, VT 05651, or online at www.centralvermonthumane.org
