ORANGE – Betty Jean Jenkins, 74, a lifelong Orange resident, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at her home. Her loving family was with her at her bedside.
Born on July 18, 1944 in Barre City, she was the daughter of Francis and Bernice (Eastman) Potter. She attended schools in Orange.
On June 23, 1962 she married the love of her life, Dennis D. Jenkins, at a beautiful ceremony in Washington. The two made their home for the remainder of Betty’s life in Orange, where they raised their four wonderful children.
Throughout her life, Betty had many hobbies and interests. The most important of those were gardening, playing cards, doing puzzles, bird watching, antiquing, and especially spending time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Dennis; her daughter Roseanne Jenkins Carroll of Orange; her sons David Jenkins and his wife, Sedillia, of Barre and Alfred Jenkins of Orange; four granddaughters Danielle, Trayce, Natosha and Samantha and two grandsons Nathan and A.J., as well as ten great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Arline Nedeau and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter Sonja Jenkins in 1988.
A service to honor and celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ Community Alliance Church on Route 302 in Orange. Interment will take place in the Brookhaven Cemetery in Orange immediately following the service.
Family and friends may call on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
