WILLIAMSTOWN – Betty Rouleau Griffith, 82, a longtime Williamstown resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Her loving family was with her at her bedside.

Born August 10, 1936 in Montpelier, she was the daughter of John Barney and Vivian (York) Smith. Betty attended elementary and high school in Montpelier.

In 1955, she married Fernand Rouleau. After their marriage, they made their home in Williamstown. Fernand passed away in 1966.

On October 10, 1977, she married Jesse D. Griffith in the St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. The two made their home in Williamstown. Jesse passed away on December 17, 2018.

Betty’s early employment included being a homemaker and raising five children as well as working as a waitress, bartender, nurses’ aide, store clerk and housecleaner. She was then employed for many years as a Data Processor with the Department of Fish and Wildlife for the State of Vermont before her retirement in 2004.

She was a member of the St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Williamstown, and the Ladies of St. Anne.

In her spare time, Betty enjoyed crocheting, baking, gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her extended family.

Survivors include her sons Joseph Rouleau and his wife, Theresa, of Williamstown; David Rouleau and his wife, Lori of Barre; her daughter Dawna Howe and her husband, Ron of Williamstown; Rickey Rouleau and his wife, Kathy of Barre Town; Matthew Rouleau and his wife, Cheryl of Williamstown; Mike Noury and his wife, Carole of Williamstown; Scott Johnson and Mark Johnson, both of Morrisville; and Cindy Johnson; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; as well as her brothers John Smith of Venice, FL; and Donald Smith of East Montpelier, VT; and her sister Lois Acebo of Barre.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands Fernand Rouleau and Jesse Griffith as well as her sister Lucille Deforge.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Edward Catholic Church in Williamstown. Friends and family may call on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.

A graveside service for her and her beloved husband, Jesse, will take place in the Spring at the Vermont Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to Woodridge Nursing Home Patient Activity Fund, 142 Woodridge Drive, Berlin, VT 05602 or Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
