Obituary

BERLIN - Betty Bowen, 87, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Woodridge Nursing home in Berlin.

Born on November 4, 1938, Betty was the daughter of Myrtle and Jimmy Lezer.

In January 1957, she married the love of her life, Richard “Rich:” Bowen. Together they built a life filled with love and memories, raising two children and making their homes in Washington, East Barre, and Ultimately Orange, Vermont.

Betty and Rich treasured time spent with their family, along with their close-knit group of friends with whom they traveled near and far with the camper in tow, creating cherished memories along the way.

Betty’s career spanned from mother and homemaker to working in the Barre area, including Homer-Fitts. She later joined Blue Cross Blue Shield, where she remained until her retirement.

A woman of deep faith, Betty was actively involved in her church communities throughout her life. From the East Barre Congregational Church to the Websterville Church where her brother was once the minister. She faithfully served in many roles, including Deaconess as well as choir member. Her commitment to the church was a large part of her life.

Betty leaves behind her son, Richard Bowen, and his wife, Astrid; her grandchildren, Michelle LaBounty, Lawrence LaBounty and his wife, Kat; and her cherished great-grandson, Braeden LaBouunty. She is also survived by her brother, Rev. Richard Painchaud, along with several nieces and nephews who will remember her fondly as well as a cherished cousin David Tosi.

Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rich; her daughter, Cheryl-Ann; and her sister, Carol.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a cause that was meaningful to her family.

Rick and Astrid would like to express their immense appreciation to the team at Woodridge Nursing Home, Maple Unit. Their kindness, compassion and care abilities speak volumes to who they all are.
