SOUTH BARRE – Betty E. Barnett, 85, of Snowbridge Road passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin with her loving family at her bedside.
Born on March 14, 1932 in Huntington, she was the daughter of Melvin O. and Ruth L. (Garvey) Emmons. Betty attended Hinesburg Elementary and High School.
Betty married Bernard U. Barnett in Woodbury. Following their marriage they made their home in Barre.
She was employed as a laundry attendant by Barre Steam and Laundry and Bashara’s Laundry mats and as a Store Clerk for Owen’s Market as well as a nanny for the Poirier family.
Betty was a member of the Hinesburg Congregational Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to country and western music, dancing, birds, flowers, and loved spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her children Bernard, Brian, Ronnie, Gary, Mary, Joyce and Sandie; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; her brothers Wayne Emmons, Wesley Emmons, Ricky Emmons, and Wendell Emmons; her sisters Barbara Crawford, Brenda Sherman, and Sharon Edson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband Bernard Barnett, her daughter Judy, her son Donald, grandson Lucas, and her sisters Cheryl Emmons and Beverly Emmons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
A service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Gary Barnett and Vicky Lanpher for taking such great care of her and giving her the best care that she could have received in the past years. Also, a special thank you to her brother, Wayne Emmons, who was always there when she needed him.
