BARRE CITY – Betty Jean (Jackman) Anderson passed away peacefully at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin on February 1, 2018 at the age of 90.

She was born in East Calais on May 17, 1927. Her parents were the late Orrin and Charlotte (Peck) Jackman. She attended Calais public schools and Montpelier High School.

Betty married Fritz R. Anderson in Montpelier on November 23, 1944. They met at a dance and enjoyed dancing throughout their married life. They wed on their farm in Plainfield until they moved to East Calais in 1946. In 1951 they moved to Barre where she lived for 63 years. In July of 2014, Betty moved to Lincoln House where she lived until the time of her death.

Betty was a member of the East Calais Congregational Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Crossroads Home Dem in Barre and Williamstown, Barre Senior Center, and the Nelson Pond Lake Association. She was also a member of the Montpelier Senior Center where she was very active with cooking, rummage sales, and many bazaars. Betty was a homemaker, but she did work part time in her parents’ general store in East Calais.

On her 39 th birthday, her parents deeded the family camp on Nelson Pond to Betty and Fritz where they spent many summers with the family and friends, enjoying the pond. Betty loved to cook for family and friends who often gathered at camp. When her grandchildren were young, they spent the summers at camp with Betty and Fritz. She hosted several picnics at camp over the years for the Montpelier Senior Center members and the Nelson Pond Lake Association.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Robert Anderson and Steve Anderson, Steve’s wife Charlene, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Fritz Anderson in 1992, her brother Robert Jackman, and her niece Elizabeth Jackman.

The celebration to honor Betty’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery in Barre City. Friends may call at the funeral home, prior to the ceremony from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.

Food, fellowship and a memory sharing time will follow at the Barre Canadian Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Resident Activity Fund, Lincoln House, 120 Hill Street, Barre, Vermont 05641.

The family would like to thank Lincoln House for their dedicated and loving care and the nurses and doctors on 2 South at Central Vermont Medical Center. A special thanks to Dr. Suiter, Linda and Maria at Barre Internal Medicine and Dr. Goulding and Abbey from the palliative care team at Central Vermont Medical Center.
