Obituary

BARRE – Bernard Scott, “Bernie”, 93, a longtime resident of High Holborn Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born on June 22, 1933, in Washington, VT, he was the son of James and Maude (Eurbin) Scott. He attended elementary school in East Barre and then went on to attend Spaulding High School.

On September 19, 1953, Bernie married Beverly Lamphear in a ceremony held in St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Graniteville. The two then made their home in Barre City for the rest of their lives.

Bernie worked for Chioldi Granite Company for over 30 years, before moving on to Peerless Granite Company for another seven years. He eventually retired at age 62, but that did not stop him from keeping busy. He filled his time driving granite trucks for Matt Couture, he made tools for several area granite cutters and would set and clean stones.

In his spare time, Bernie loved going camping, restoring antique cars, deer hunting, ice fishing, boating and most importantly spending time with his family.

His memberships included the Barre Masonic Lodge, the Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts Club, the American Legion, the Elks Club, the Canadian Club, the Mutuo, and was a call fireman for Barre City Fire Department for 30 years. He was also a member of the Hedding United Methodist Church in Barre.

Survivors include his wife Beverly Scott of Barre; his daughters Melody Lacroix and her husband, Richard of Northfield and Cindy Wade of Williamstown; his grandchildren Valerie Brickey and her husband, Keith of Northfield, Christopher Wade and his wife, Courtney of Williamstown and Mathew Wade of Williamstown. He also leaves his great-grandchildren Hailey Brickey of Northfield, Christian Wade of Williamstown and Tyler Wade of Williamstown, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his eleven siblings and his son-in-law Lonny Wade.

A service to honor and celebrate Bernie’s life will be held at a later date to be announced. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, barre, VT 05641.
