Bernard Badeau

NORTH FORT MYERS, FL - Bernard “Bernie” Badeau, 68, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

Born in Barre, he was the son of Philorum and Delvina Badeau and one of 16 children. Bernie grew up in Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1968.  He then joined the Vermont Army National Guard. After a car accident, he was discharged and attended Champlain College where he graduated in 1973 with an Associate Degree in Business.  Champlain College is also where he met the love of his life, Pamela Grimes, whom he married in 1974.

Bernie and Pam moved to Barre City where Bernie had a successful career working for the City of Barre in the recreation, street and water departments until his retirement in 2003.

Bernie was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time at his camp on Cranberry Meadow with friends and family.  Later in life, he became passionate about golf and continued to play even after having a stroke, when he learned how to play one handed.  But of all his joys, Bernie’s greatest passion was teaching and mentoring the youth of Barre.  He loved coaching and spent many years coaching baseball through Little League and the American Legion Post #10, football, and his most beloved sport of all, hockey, through the Barre Youth Sports Association (BYSA).

Survivors include his wife of 45 years Pamela Badeau; his son Eric Badeau and his wife, Erin Engelhardt; his daughter Renee Badeau and her fiancée, Mark Stupik; two granddaughters, Mary and Elly; his brothers and sisters Victor, Richard, Leonard, Edgar, Hector, Edward, Gerard, Gaspor, Theodore, Cecile, Germaine, Rejeanne and Irene and their respective spouses as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Marie Reine and Madeline.

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church, 79 Summer Street, Barre. Family and friends may call on Friday, December 27 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.
