EAST BARRE – Beatrice E. Sainz, 96, a very long resident of Mill Street passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at home with her family at her side.
As a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she lived an extraordinary and active life, making examples of working hard, volunteering in her community and developing loving relationships with so many people.
Born on September 8, 1927, on Trow Hill in Barre, she was the daughter of the late Arthur R. and Doris (Bullock) Ladd. Beatrice attended a one-room school in Cutler Corner. At the age of 12 years old, she was the school janitor for two years. Starting the wood burning furnace and lugging water in the winter months from her home. After graduation, she worked at the Formica Plant until it closed and then worked at the former Rock of Ages Capacitor Plant and Sprague Electric in Barre. Then at the Puritan Clothing Store.
On June 19, 1948, she married Manuel Sainz in the East Barre Congregational Church. They made their home in East Barre all through their married lives.
In 1948, she became employed by the East Barre Glove Factory and worked there until it closed. Beatrice then became at stay-at-home mom for her three children Vickie, Manuel, and Joseph until they were out of school and on their own. After that, she became a custodian at the East Barre Congregational Church for many years and she also worked at Barre Town Elementary School for 22 years before retiring. In retirement, she worked with her husband for 15 years at Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home delivering caskets to funeral homes when needed.
Beatrice was a member of the East Barre Congregational Church, where she served as a Deaconess for six years, a Sunday School teacher’s helper, sang in the choir for 61 years and worked on the Chicken Pie Supper Committee for 50 years. She also belonged to the Green Hills Homemakers of East Barre for 50 years.
In her spare time, she loved bowling and playing cards with all of her friends, singing with the Young at Heart group at the Barre Senior Center and camping in New Hampshire, Maine, and locally at Groton State Forest and Mobile Acres in Braintree. She enjoyed cooking, working in her flower garden and travelling with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and lots of friends she loved.
Survivors include her daughter Vickie Lynn Fong and her husband, David of Rainier, WA; her sons Manuel Sainz of Marshfield, VT; Joseph Sainz and his wife, Christine of Plainfield, VT; her grandsons Aron Garceau and his wife, Bethany Johnson of St. Albans, VT; and Joshua Sainz of Topsham, VT; and Rinnosuke Sainz of Tokyo, Japan; her granddaughters Natosha Sainz of Websterville, VT; Nahoami Shannon of Marshfield, VT; Adam Sainz and his wife, Emma of Morrisville, VT; and Fuka Arial Sainz and Karin Christy Sainz of Tokyo, Japan; her great-grandsons Joshua Jr. and Samual Sainz, Jacob Sainz, Dax Sainz, Emman Garceau, Carbhatsin Shannon; and her great-granddaughters Christyanna and Amiee Holt, and Aria Garceau as well as her sisters-in-law Claire Ladd of Berlin, VT and Ruth Ladd of New Jersey.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Manual Sainz, her granddaughter Ami Garceau, her sisters Doreen Merrill Baril, Viola Copeland Gray and Anita Ladd; her brothers Kenneth, Melvin, and Homer Ladd; her sister-in-law Cina Sainz and her brothers-in-law Philip and Rudy Sainz.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at a date and time to be announced in the Spring.
