BARRE CITY - Barbara Anne (Sawyer) Emery, 84, long-time resident of North Barre Manor and formerly of Washington VT., died Oct. 22, 2017 at Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Nov 10, 1932 in Haverhill, NH, the daughter of Frank A. and Rose, (Bates) Sawyer. She made her home in Wells River and graduated from Wells River High School in 1950 where she was Vice President of her class and Captain of the women’s basketball team. She attended Lyndon Teachers College and Toccoa Falls Bible College in Toccoa, GA.

On Oct 11, 1952 she married William N. Emery of Groton VT. They lived in Groton until 1954, when they moved to Toccoa, Ga. They returned to Vermont in December of 1968 with their 5 children.

She was a member of the Washington Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was an alternate pianist for Sunday services.

Barbara enjoyed walking, swimming, x-country skiing, being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and she loved to travel, walk on the beach, and watch the Red Sox and Celtics win.

Survivors include a son, William Emery Jr and his wife, Barbara, of Washington and three daughters, Sarah Joy Ibey and her husband, Robert, of St Petersburg FL; Judy Watker and her husband Edward, and Jeanne Jean and her companion, Michael Piro, all of Barre, Daughter In-law Liselle Emery also of St Petersburg, FL, 10 Grandchildren, 12 Great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and more distant relatives.

She was predeceased by her husband William Emery, son Daniel Emery, son-in-law Philip Jean, sisters Lillian Keagan, Mary Martin, Doris Tumalty, and brothers, Bill Vigneau, and Edward Sawyer.

A memory time to honor and celebrate the life of Barbara Anne Emery will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in her church, the First Baptist Church, 24 Washington Street, Barre, VT.

Inurnment will be made with her beloved husband, Bill, at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Washington.

There are no calling hours.
