Audria Loraine Girouard

WILLIAMSTOWN – Audria Loraine Girouard, 94, of the South Barre Road, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center. Her family had been at her bedside.
Born July 3, 1920, in Newport, she was the daughter of Joseph J. and Anna (Dubey) Lahar. She was a graduate of Newport High School and the Cooley-Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing in Northampton, Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse in 1943. She later received her Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Castleton (Vermont) State College.
On July 1, 1947 she married Normand E. Girouard in Newport. Following their marriage, they made their home there. They later were long-time residents of the Barre area and will be well remembered as owners and operators of the former Girouard St. Jude Nursing Home in South Barre from 1965 to 1990. Normand died February 28, 1974.
Audria was a WWII Veteran of U.S. Army Service from May 1944 to March 1946 and was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps at the General Hospital at Camp Edwards, Massachusetts.
She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, travelling and playing golf.
Her memberships included St. Monica Catholic Church and Court St. Monica of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; Knights of Columbus Auxiliary; the American College of Health Care Administrators; Vermont Association of Retarded Children and was an active participant in the Vermont Health Care Association.
Survivors include her 5 sons; Normand E. Girouard, Jr., and wife, Katherine, of Draper, Utah; Raymond Girouard and wife, Regina, of Fairfax, Virginia; Joseph Girouard of Shrewsbury, Vermont; Philip Girouard of Williamstown and Peter Girouard and wife, Suzanne, of Ludlow, Vermont and 3 grandchildren; Matthew, Timothy, and Victoria Girouard and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, Normand, she was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
Later inurnment will be made in the Hope Cemetery in Barre City under the direction of her family.
There are no calling hours.
