BARRE CITY – Arlene Maude Draper, 94, a longtime Hardwick and Barre resident, passed away at her residence on Hill Street on Friday, April 20, 2018.

Born on July 19, 1923 in Jericho, VT, she was the daughter of Wallace and Maude (Dumas) Streeter. She spent her childhood living in West Bolton and attended elementary school there before traveling to Barre and attending Spaulding High School. Her family moved to Hardwick in 1941.

After working in CT during the WW2 years, Arlene returned to VT where she met Reginald Draper. The two were married October 15, 1946 in Greensboro. They made their home for forty years in Hardwick, where they ran a successful logging business. Arlene did the bookkeeping and kept an immaculate home for her family.

Reginald passed away in 1989 and Arlene lived in the Hardwick home an additional fifteen years before moving to the Barre area. For the past three years she has resided at Lincoln House under the care of their wonderful staff.

Throughout her life she had many hobbies and interests. Important among them were sewing, vegetable and flower gardening, watching wildlife, and caring for her pets, both domestic and wild.

Survivors include her son Keith Draper of Barre; her brother-in-law Angelo Bartolotta of Middletown, CT and her sister-in-law Eileen Draper of Rutland. She also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother Wallace Streeter and two sisters Geraldine Cuthbert and Helen Bartolotta.

A graveside service to honor Arlene’s life will be held at the convenience of the family in the Main Street Cemetery in Hardwick.
