WILLIAMSTOWN – Ann Hegarty, 88, a long-time Circle Street resident passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin with her family at her bedside.

Born January 15, 1931 in Barre, she was the daughter of Frederick and Margaret (Murray) MacAulay.

Ann attended elementary school in Williamstown and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1949. She then attended Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1953 as a Registered Nurse.

On September 24, 1955 she married Daryl Hegarty in Williamstown. Following their marriage, they made their home in Williamstown. Daryl passed away in May of 2008.

Ann was employed as a Registered Nurse for twenty years at several places locally including the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration Office. She also worked at Williamstown High School as a Home Economics Aide and did a lot of volunteering.

She was a member of the Williamstown United Federated Church and was very active in church functions as well as a very active member of the Ainsworth Public Library in Williamstown where she served as a Trustee and Treasurer.

In her spare time, Ann enjoyed bird watching, crossword puzzles, taking care of her grandchildren and baking.

Survivors include her two sons Daryl M. Hegarty and his wife, Theresa of Syracuse, NY and Dan Hegarty and his wife, Brenda of Williamstown; a special niece Lisa DeWitt of Sacramento, CA; four grandchildren, Taylor Hegarty, Austin Hegarty, Michael Lusky, and Elizabeth Lusky; many nieces and nephews as well as her sister Doris Portalupi of Barre Town.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Daryl E. Hegarty, and her sisters Sheila Bizzarro and Mary Day.

The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Williamstown United Federated Church with burial following the service in the Village Cemetery in Williamstown. There are no calling hours.
