BARRE - Anita (Cano) Monty, a lifelong resident of Barre, joined her loving husband, Al in eternal life on November 24, 2019.
Anita was the youngest of five children, born on March 14, 1929 to Manuel and Amparo (Puente) Cano. Anita married Alfred (Al) Monty on April 16, 1955 in St. Monica Church. Following their marriage, the couple made their home with her parents, as Anita was the primary caregiver of her physically disabled mother. Following her mother’s death, Anita and Al took care of her father until the time of her father’s passing. She never lost the fluent Spanish she spoke with her parents and found great comfort in the language up to her final days.
Anita & Al were blessed with four children which survive her; Susan (Skip) Poczobut; David (Cristy); Edward (Robin); and Alan (Lauren). The delight of Anita’s life were her 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 62 years, her parents as well as her four sisters and their spouses.
Anita was a lifelong housewife and caregiver. Following the death of her parents, Anita accompanied Al as he travelled New England as a square dance caller and teacher. She was a central part of the dancing community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Anita was a devoted member of St. Monica Parish, and enjoyed singing at mass. She was also a great lover of animals, particularly her dog Chico.
