VENICE, FL – Amelia “Teenie” Helene Lissor, 93, a former long-time resident of Barre passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, in Barre.

Born on August 5, 1931, in Barre, she was the daughter of Frank and Helen (Frazier) Angelico. She attended Ayers Street and Lincoln Elementary Schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1949. Following graduation, she attended the Barre City Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1952. In 1956, she enlisted in the Navy Nurse Corp Reserve and was assigned to active duty at the Portsmouth, Virginia Naval Hospital where she stayed until 1958 and was in the active reserves until 1966. She graduated from Johnson State College in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in social work.

On June 5, 1959, she married Donald Lissor in the St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre. Following their marriage, they made their home in Barre. They spent many happy times at their camp on Shadow Lake in Glover before retiring to Venice, Florida. Donald passed away on October 21, 2007.

Amelia was employed by the Barre City Hospital from 1952-1956, served with the U.S. Navy Nurse Corp from 1956-1958 then returned to Barre City Hospital until 1961 before joining the State of Vermont, Department of Social Welfare where she worked until 1979 when she transferred to the Medicaid Division as a Medical Consultive Service Coordinator until 1990.  She  finished her career working for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation when she retired in 1996.   Amelia was responsible for creating a Medicaid high technology program for infants and young children, allowing them to be cared for in their homes with team support.

After retirement, she helped the State Medicaid and Vocational Rehabilitation Divisions develop a community re-entry program for head injury survivors.

Her memberships included the St. Monica Catholic Church of Barre and the Epiphany Cathedral and Evangelica Covenant Church of Venice Isle, as well as the Phi Beta Sigma Chapter #979, which is a philanthropic Sorority where all proceeds go to cancer research.

In her spare time, she was an avid artist specializing in watercolors, oils, and reverse glass, loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing bingo and held a seasonal pass to the Venice Concert Band for the last 10 years.

Survivors include her nephews Frank Angelico and his wife, Tina; Peter Angelico and his wife, Kristine; and her niece Valerie Angelico; her grand nephews and nieces Frank, Kayla, Jake, Alexander, Madison, Cassidy, and Carly; her brother-in-law Roger Lissor and his wife, Claire as well as nephew Gregory Lissor and his wife, Phi Doane; and niece Martha DeVos and her husband, William; and grand nephews and nieces Andrea, Rachel, Kimberly, Heather, Alexander, and Cassandra as well as 10 great grand nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Donald Lissor, her brother Frank Angelico and her nephew Jeffrey Lissor.

The service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at a date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
