BERLIN – Allan Conrad Velander, 90, a long-time resident passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Lincoln House in Barre with his family at his bedside.

Born September 18, 1929 in Barre, he was the son of Carl and Selma (Johnson) Velander. Allan attended local elementary schools and graduated from Montpelier High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged in 1953.

In 1954, Allan married Marlene Johnson. Following their marriage, they made their home in Berlin where they lived for many years before moving to Lincoln House two years ago.   Allan and Marlene celebrated sixty-five years of marriage this past July.

He was employed as an electrician with National Life Insurance Company and served as Exalted Ruler and a long-time member of the Montpelier Lodge of Elks #924. Allan and Marlene loved to dance the night away with all their close friends at the Elks.

In his spare time, Allan enjoyed hunting at the Roxbury Camp and summers spent on Nelson Pond in Calais. He enjoyed sitting on the deck sipping toddy’s and keeping an eye on the neighbors across the lake.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Velander of Barre; his daughter Lori Velander of Berlin; his son Larry Velander and his wife, Christine of North Carolina; his grandsons Max Allan Velander and Christopher Lackey and his fiancée, Kasey Haskins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Eric Velander.

A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of his family.
