BARRE – Alfred “Al” Roy, 75, of Barre, Vermont passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at his home.
Born on June 19, 1949, in Barre, he was the son of Gerard and Alice (Fournier) Roy. He attended St. Monica Elementary School and graduated from Spaulding High School. Following graduation, he became employed as a draftsman by Rock of Ages for 35 years.
Al was a member of the Mutuo, Inc., and the Canadian Club of Barre. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling to Maine and playing drums in a band. He was a self-taught drummer from the early age of 12, which expanded into a professional drumming career. He played in a number of bands over the years which includes his current band "Donna Thunder". He was active on his beloved drums until just a few days before his passing, and always happiest in the midst of his drum “kit.” When he wasn’t on the road as a musician, he was in his basement shop translating his draftsmanship/creative skills into novelty signs and many other items that grace the homes and businesses in Vermont and far beyond. He valued the personal interaction with customers and was a fixture at the many craft show venues in the state.
Survivors include his partner Cheryl Bennett, his sisters Anna Roy and her husband, Fred Wiseman; Aline Roy and her husband, Andrew Lee; his niece Laurie York Camp and her fiancé Michael DePaoli; his nephew Aaron York; his great-niece Rheagan Weinberger and her husband, Shawn; his great-nephew Willem Camp and great-niece Elidgh PartridgeYork.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Per Al's wishes, no calling hours or funeral will be held.
