EAST BARRE – Alfred Walter “Buddy” Atkins, 80, of Phil Street died Monday, March 27, 2017, at his home with his family at his side.

Born April 23, 1936 in Websterville, he was the son of Elizabeth “Betty” Duncan Blake. He had attended elementary school in East Barre and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre City.

“Buddy” was married to Linda J. Eells in Mendon, VT and all of their married life had been spent in East Barre.

From 1955 to 1957 he served in the United States Army and was assigned to the 3 rd Infantry Division and was discharged at Fort Dix, NJ.

Following his discharge in 1957, he worked in sales for Hibbert and McGee Wholesale Inc., in East Barre and later became owner and operator of the company.

Hunting, camping, spending time at Pigeon Pond, traveling and the out of doors were things the enjoyed and was a member of the Mutuo, Inc.

Besides his wife Linda, he leaves his daughter Nancy Manning and her husband, Mitchell of Orange and his son James Atkins and his significant other Jill Lyons of East Barre; four granddaughters Mikayla, Shenia and Lexis Manning and Emily Atkins; as well as his sisters Mary Lu Guy and Lois Plante and brother Floyd “Skip” Blake and nieces and nephews.

The service to remember and honor the life of “Buddy” will be celebrated Friday, March 31, 2017 in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre at 1:00 p.m.

Later inurnment will be made in the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph Center at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
