SOUTH BARRE – Alden Charles Chapman, 88, of Deerfield Drive passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston.
Born June 8, 1927, in the Barre City Hospital, he was the son of Charles Chapman and Gertrude (Jennette) Chapman. He attended local schools and graduated from Spaulding High School.
Following his graduation, Alden joined the U.S. Army and served in Japan until he was honorably discharged in 1951. He was first employed by the Granite City Creamery as an ice cream maker, and then with Modern Printing Company, both in Barre, before retiring from the Northlight Studio Press in East Montpelier.
Alden was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed assembling dye cast models of his favorite antique cars and was a member of the Vermont Antique Automobile Club.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Boyce, of Windsor, and nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Alden was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Edna Brigham and Rita Codling.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours.
