BARRE - Adelaide (Lawson) Lyon, 93, of Garden St., and Sandy Cay Ave., Venice, FL died Thursday, June 4, 2015 in Essex Junction.

She was born in Coventry, VT on January 19, 1922, daughter of George and Bertha (True) Lawson. She married Ernest R. Lyon on June 10, 1944 in New Haven, CT. Together they lived in Barre, VT and Venice, FL enjoying 64 wonderful years of marriage. He passed away on July 22, 2008.

She attended Elementary School in Coventry and graduated from Newport High School and Lyndon State College with a BS degree. She taught in Hannibal, NY, Groton, VT and Barre, VT, and substituted and tutored for several years more.

She was a member of the Hedding United Methodist Church, Barre, VT, and affiliated with Christ United Methodist Church in Venice, FL. She was active in both choirs and in all other choirs wherever she and her husband lived.

She was president of the Groton United Methodist Women, and the Barre United Methodist Women. Also, she was president of the Green Mountain District United Methodist Women, and president of Church Women United, Barre, VT.

She was a member of the Country Club of Barre and the Lake Venice Country Club. She was a past member of the Barre Women’s Club, the Granite City Garden Club and the AAUW.

She leaves two sons; Peter E. Lyon and wife Janice of Essex Jct., and Lyndol G. Lyon and wife Linda of Bedford, PA; daughter, Jean L. Darling of Bandera, TX; six grandchildren, Jean Blunt and husband Greg, Gregg Lyon and wife Heather, Jeff Lyon and wife Dawn, Christopher Lyon and wife Kristen, all of Essex Jct., Rick Darling and wife Michelle of Bandera, TX and Joel Darling and wife Jennifer of Muskegon, MI; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest R. Lyon and her brother, Jack Lawson.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Hedding United Methodist Church, 40 Washington Street in Barre. Burial will follow at the Hope Cemetery, Barre.
