GRANITEVILLE – A. Douglas “Doug” Nadeau, 84, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, New Hampshire.
Born on June 29, 1940, in Graniteville, he was the son of Alexander and Winifred (McLaughlin) Nadeau. He attended local elementary schools and graduated from Spaulding High School in 1958. Following high school, he attended Vermont Technical College where he received an associate degree in 1960.
He then went to work for General Electric Company in Burlington, until he joined the U.S. Army serving from 1964-66, stationed in Seoul, South Korea with the 181st Signal Company, 304th Signal Battalion, 8th U.S. Army Command. Upon returning home, he went to work for IBM in Essex Junction, while also returning to college at the University of Vermont and graduating in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in management engineering and in 1975 with a master’s degree in vocational education.
After completing his degree work at UVM, Doug returned to the central Vermont area and started teaching at the Barre Vocational-Technical Center where he retired after 28 years serving as the instructor of the nationally recognized Pre-Engineering Graphics program. He was very proud of being named Teacher of the year 1995-1996.
Doug received numerous local, state, and national education awards throughout his career, including the Alumnus of the Year award at Vermont Technical College in 1995 and a Community Service Award in 2004 at which he received the award from Governor Jim Douglas.
His memberships included the Elks since 1981, the American Legion Post #10 of Barre since 1985, and Flags for Veterans since its founding in 2002 to which he spent many hours researching to ensure all local veterans were properly recognized.
Survivors include his sisters-in-law Charlene Nadeau and Carol Nadeau along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by all his brothers and sisters Edsel Nadeau, Willis Nadeau, and Sheldon Nadeau, and his sisters Evelyn Nadeau Vivian, and Freida Nadeau Garand as well as his sister-in-law Irene Farnham Nadeau and his brothers-in-law Carl Vivian and Raymond Garand.
A private family service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of his family in the Wilson Cemetery in Lower Websterville.
